We stayed in Jao for 2 nights as a part of our honeymoon to Botswana and Zambia. Our initial impression was that it was fantastic, and the travel agent had indicated to us that it was one of the top properties in Botswana, however we have mixed feelings on this place. The Good: - Game viewing was fantastic and the... more

My first impression of Jao was "wow". It is a gorgeous camp in every way - great communal area encompassing lounge, library, bar and dining area over 2 levels. Big stairs everywhere though which can be a little daunting at first. The rooms are enormous - at least 3 times bigger that most in the Delta. They are linked by... more

I stayed here w. a freind as part of a 12 day safari of Botswana and Zambia's premier Wilderness Safaris Camps. It's a lovely Italian designed all wooden camp w. an Indonesian feel to it. There is a 1 km long wooden walk way up to 2 meters high in places directly under trees to the rooms making you feel... more

If you have already been to a traditional land-based Big 5 reserve, try something new in the form of Jao Camp. I found that the staff at Jao really made the camp. The managers at the time, Rebecca and Clinton, are down to earth, friendly, and truly hospitable, with no pretense about them. Every night there was a big bonfire,... more

Jao Camp is beautiful--a fusion of Polynesian architecture and classic African interior design. The staff is warm and wonderful. Our guide, Victor, and his apprentice, Daniel, were knowledgeable and down-right fun. Spectacular scenery, remarkable attention to detail, and fabulous food (especially the fresh baked breads). My favorite Jao moments: (1) Resting on pillows in my sala (my tent's private gazebo)... more

We were at Jao when the Okavnago was in flood. I liked this camp but it is very different from the camps in the Linyati or Chobe area. Our first safari by Jeep involved going through water that was almost up to the snorkel on the hood. The wildlife is more of the bird and baboon variety. The camp itself... more

I is so nice to expect something and get way more....that is JAO. What an incredible place. Plenty of game to see as well as different game viewing by makuro (from the water) The rooms are fantastic with beautiful decor and the service is over the top. You can also plan a sleep out where they will fix up a... more

We spent 3 nights at Jao, based on our safari planners recomendation. It was the first in our series of 4 safari camps and ended up being my husband's favorite. Upon arrival we were met by a young bull elephant eating at the raised walkway. We walked within 2 feet of him and he went right along with his business... more

Not A Place for Jet Lag Jao Camp was my first camp in my trip to four African nations in January 2004. From the moment I stepped from the plane (that did not turn off its engine because the dirt landing strip was too short) I knew I was in good and friendly hands. I am an older woman travelling... more
