Ended up at the Butler House because all the major hotels were full due to the Iowa caucuses. What luck! For my taste, there is no better place to stay in Des Moines, period. The Butler House is immaculate. We spent one night there while on our way to Omaha via Amana colonies. We were not disappointed! And I am PICKY! Clark and his wife (lauren?) are helpful yet do not 'hover' like other BandB owners you may have run into at other establishments. They upgraded us for free to the best suite room.... more

We just came back from a five day stay at the Butler House in Des Moines and can't say enough nice things about it. This is just a gem of a B&B. Stayed at Butler House a couple years ago, and enjoyed it immensely. Beautiful home, beautifully decorated, with wonderful service and hospitality. You would pay double the money for the same quality here in the Northeast. more
