I managed to narrowly avoid staying at this hotel, and I suggest you do the same. I was waiting for my friend to arrive in their lobby, when confronted by the individual working the front desk. Yes, I think "confronted" is the right word. He said, as an opening remark: "I have to ask you to leave". It's hard to... more

This is by far the most disgusting, foul, horrible, terrible, pathetic, worthless, dirty, probably disease infested hotel I have ever stayed in - and that includes European hostels, etc. This place is flat out disgusting. I'd rather sleep on the streets than on the nasty bed at the Shattuck. I prepaid for two nights, but could only stay one because... more

Having stayed in all the hotels in Berkeley over the years, I have a realistic view of hotel accommadations in this great city. In general because of the lack of hotel rooms close to campus, it is a sellers market. Recently all the better hotels were booked and I was forced to book a room here. It was homecoming weekend... more

I went back to visit Berkeley for a memorial service for my mentor who was a professor at Cal. I chose this hotel because it has a great location to campus and is within walking distance to bars, shops and restaraunts. I knew the area well since I lived there for 4 years, but I never stayed in the hotels.... more

I stayed at the Hotel Shattuck a few years ago and I was pleasantly suprised. The Hotel exceeeded my expectations. The rooms were clean, the staff were frieindly, it was in a great location and it was reasonably priced. It's a great character hotel. I would stay there again. In fact, I just recommended it to a friend. more

I don't even know where to start. Dude at the front desk told me where the ice machine was but didn't mention the fact that it was broken. The elevator took us everywhere except where we wanted to go. The fire dept. even came at one point because someone was stuck. The continental breakfast served warm orange juice and even... more

We checked in. The lobby was pretty old and not very well maintained, but we thought it would be worthwhile to see the rooms before we made any judgements. So we took the one elevator that worked up to the fifth floor. When we arrived at our room we found somebody else's stuff sitting in the corner... apparently the maids... more

Jose, Hotel manager and front desk. thank you very much for your honesty and assistance in retriveing my watch from room 301. The watch cost nothing but was family gift and treasured by me. Old hotel but very friendly service. I have been coming here from 1988. See you guys after renovation. more

Shows its age, but cleaner than some reviews here indicate. Bed and shower are good. Elevator is eccentric. Two of three desk clerks were friendly and helpful. Avoid rooms facing noisy Shattuck Avenue. Can't beat price and location. The hotel is scheduled for renovation in November, 2007. more

The Hotel is old and worn out. We compalined about hot water and beeding, but the female front desk manager had such an attitude. She wont let me talk to any other Manager or anyone else. She claims she is everything. She told us to leave the hotel rite away or she will call the police. Never ever you should... more
