I chose the Dharmawangsa because I did not want to stay in a big chain hotel but have something more tipical - and yes it is tipical Indonesian! Location: nice quiet residential neighbourhood, but a bit far from the centre. Be aware that there are 2 constructions going on right next to the hotel, so depending on room you get... more
Room: Stayed in a Pool View Senior Executive room. I had a butler button in my room. When my blow dryer broke the concierge spent a couple hours driving around trying to find one for me. I wasn’t expecting turn down service so it startled me to go into my room and have things straightened and relaxing music playing in... more
I stayed two nights at The Dharmawangsa on a business trip, everything was simply picture prefect, except for two very small mishaps, that by the end was turned into an advantage for me. I onlt had breakfast one morning, and then i was in a real hurry, however it seemed quite ok. The gym, the pool, the butler service, the... more
Simply stunning. This was my first time to Jakarta and I was a little bit taken in by the stories that you hear. So it was a very pleasant surprise to be met by a member of staff from the hotel, pretty much from the gangway off the plane. The hotel rep took me through customs and immigration without the... more
This is a superb hotel made all the more remarkable by its location in a stressful, hectic, exciting (and polluted) city. A real oasis of calm. The other reviews say it all really. I can also recommend the spa treatments - professionally administered in nice rooms. What stands out most in all that beautiful decoration (traditional Java with lots of... more
An incredibly serene and luxurious place to stay. I say "place to stay" rather than "hotel" because the Dharmawangsa truly didn't feel like a hotel when I spent 3 nights there last week - more like a very grand home with simply superb staff and very personalized service. The only tiny thing that went wrong was that my coffee was... more
Having travelled extensively on business, staying at high end hotels has become an occupational norm... I had long expected to not expect too much other than the standard check-in process, similarly designed hotel room, with the standard conveniences of king-sized bed, usual bathroom with its nondescript amenities and satisfactory room service menu. Functional but soulless; I haven't had my breath... more
Sybaritic business stay. Elegant modern Javanese interior design. Etro room amenities a lovely touch. Fantastic coffee...this is Java after all. Staff friendly and helpful without being invasive. The adjacent gardens and pool are an Edenic niche in this sprawling, seething city. A top notch place. more
I've been going to Jakarta for 20 years on business and have stayed at nearly every 4 - 5 star hotel -- but Dharmawangsa is my favorite. It is located on a compound in South Jakarta and from the moment you walk through the door you're treated like royalty. The fragrance of fresh flowers in the lobby (and your room)... more
