I stayed here for 4 days in September 2008 and paid around £50 a night. Although the hotel location is good for sightseeing it is poor for atmosphere as it sits surrounded by traffic and concrete. Yes the Nile is outside the window but it separated from you by a race track. Maybe it was a 4 star hotel once... more

We spent a weekend in Cairo, and found the Shepheard to be the only 5 star hotel which was available for our time there. Upon arrival, we were asked to wait in reception while our room was cleaned. Once we got to our room, we found a colony of ants on the balcony, which also seemed to have found thier... more

I stayed in June - the off season - at the Shepheard near the Nile and tourist attractions for the last two nights of my 10 day tour. When I checked in to my room 929 I nearly gagged. I asked the porter if he could smell the mold. He said yes but did not seem to mind. I asked... more

We arrived at Cairo and got a cab directly from airport. Be prepared for immediate bargaining! Lots of people offering you different prices. I would recommend bringing a handful of 1's to tip people with. They will expect it from the airport! and we were unsure and unprepared for this and weren't sure how much to give and gave a... more

Fantastic old style hotel - right on the Nile in Cairo. Great location, decent selection of restaurants/bar. So many downtown cafes nearby. You could literally touch the Nile from the balcony rooms - so gorgeous. SPACIOUS rooms, clean, comfortable. more

If you're looking for a nice and reasonably priced hotel that is close to the Nile and downtown, I would recommend the Shepheard Hotel. Our travel agent (who happened to be an Egyptian) booked this hotel for us. The hotel is located in downtown Cairo, right across the Intercontinental Hotel and right next to the Nile river. The U.S. embassy... more

I loved this hotel, We booked as part of a tour of Egypt and we stayed in Luxor, Aswan and on a cruise ship for 3 nights and this was by far my favourite hotel of the trip. We stayed for 3 nights, 2 at the start and 1 at the end of the trip in different rooms on opposite... more

I stayed at the Shepherd Hotel for 3 weeks in January 2008. LOCATION The hotel has a good central location, overlooking the Nile and close the the Egyptian Museum, which is only a short 10min walk. Nearby is the internations university, and diplomatic buildings, meaning the area is well kept and has a comfortable environment. The airport is a 40mins... more

It was an ok hotel, stayed here for 2 nights, conveniently located for Nile dinner cruise on the Scarab boat which was very good, if you prefer a more intimate experience go on the later cruises as there were only 15 people on the whole boat compared to the whole boat being full of Japanese tourists on the earlier trip!... more

This is an époque hotel from another era long gone. The lobby, dining rooms and restaurants all have style and features that simply can no longer be produced. The ceilings alone are a work of art that loom 40-50ft overhead. Its rooms are generous, comfortable, and clean. Bathrooms are large (separate rooms for toilet/bidet from bath/shower). Views are unsurpassed. Cairo... more
