We have just returned from a weeks stay at the Dan Eilat. We had a good sized and clean room with a great view over the Red Sea. Breakfasts are phenomenal - quality and quantity. While this is not the most luxurious hotel I have stayed at, I don't understand the negative reviews. Eilat is like the Israeli Las Vegas, or perhaps like Myrtle Beach (I've never been there), so don't be surprised by the atmosphere of the hotels or the people. Although Frommer's and Fodor's both have glowing reviews of this hotel, if you are a sophisticated traveller, I would steer clear. I don't know that there are any better choices in Eilat, because the whole town is something of a "vacation factory" built for the Israeli equivalent of middle America. used to be our favorite, but......... after 10 years, get new mattresses!!!!! the originals are all worn down. We stayed in a suite, not half as good as the suites in the Royal Beach next nearby.
