OK. It's my fault we stayed at this hotel, I was looking for something cheap and different and didn't realise what I was getting us into. I've stayed in small hotel rooms before ( Paris ) but this takes the biscuit, it is sooooooooooo small and boxy and actually quite distressing to remain in. It is seriously odd and unless... more

Sydney was the second port of call on our world tour and we wanted a hotel we could relate to and relax in. This was not it! The room we were assigned was so small that we had to sit on the bed and there were absolutely no drawers for clothes. We asked for an upgrade and were given a... more

This is the worst hotel I have ever stayed in. I asked for a quiet room when I booked in but the male receptionist told me that every room is the same. This appears to be not true. To begin with, I was put on the 9th room next to the elevator. Obviously, this being a very old hotel, the... more

Most definitely not a boutique hotel, which generally means contemporary. The room was tiny with frosted glass so no natural daylight. The decor was 'old charm' but really just old. The breakfast is the most basic I have EVER seen in a hotel - to be fair they only charged $10! The staff were ok but didn't exactly go out... more

We stayed at the castlereagh for new year in sydney, the location is ok, the staff friendly, and very close to everything in central Sydney, the hotel is clean, but thats it. The room had only frosted glass windows almost at ceiling height to get some daylight in and a terrible central aircondition system that must date back to the... more

My family were in from America and we booked two rooms for 10 days. The hotel is just two blocks from David Jones & 15 minutes walk to Circular Quay. It's a really pretty hotel with good service etc. The only things I would complain about are the tiny rooms. I guess you can expect that in Sydney, but it... more

My husband and I stayed there last month for three nights and were very pleased with the accommodation. Lobby is charming and the bedroom was nicely decorated with pretty lamps, bedspread and carpet. The matresses were comfortable and the bathroom was sparkling clean. Continental breakfast was served in the lovely, period diningroom and hot breakfast was only $8.00 extra. There... more

The reception area of this hotel is majestic, thats about as far as it goes. After waiting for what seemed like hours for the tiny old lift after we checked in, we made our way up to the tenth floor. I was excited and hoping for a view. Not to be. Our room was barely big enough for the (just)... more

Please, please, stay somewhere else! This hotel should be rated 1 star only for its rooms. We had a tiny, dark and dingy room with a substandard shower room and no bath. Cracked and dirty tiles in the shower and the kind of thick glass in the windows with wire in it that was used in pre-war Nissan huts! The... more

This hotel is full of "ole world charm" and its location is fantastic. If you want to be close to Myers, Queen victoria Building etc, this is the hotel. Rooms were OK and the bed was comfortable. Staff were helpful with queries. I liked the decor which is welcome after the modern day hotels where you pay for their decorations.... more
