Hotel Macarena is a simple family run hotel located in a very conveniently opposite Plaza Mayor. Our room is facing Cava San Miguel with a little balcony. Initially I have reservations if this will be too noisy, but I was pleasantly suprised the noise from the restaurant below do not bother us at all. If it does, the room has... more

What a hidden gem the Hostal La Macarena is, and positioned right next to the Plaza Major. Although the Hostal does not do meals, that is definitely not a problem, as the area surrounding it has dozens of excellent restaurants and bars. We spent a long weekend here, and even with the temperatures of 38-39 we did not miss air... more

La Macarena is a modest small hostal hotel, located 100 steps from the Plaza Mayor in downtown Madrid on the second floor of a large apartment building (with elevator) on a busy restaurant and tapa bar street. About a 10 minute walk to the Puerta del Sol and its Sol Metro stop, or 10 minutes to the Opera Metro stop.... more

As others have commented, the rooms are small and lacking in decor, but the value is good and the location is perfect. We booked directly with them via email and had no trouble with our reservations. Our room was comfortable and clean. Our windows opened onto a light well so it was fairly quiet. This is not a luxurious place... more

I booked this hotel because of its price and location to the city centre. We were very very pleased with its location right off the plaza Mayor, just round the corner from the old town hall and 5 mins from Sol and its nightlife. The rooms had fans on the ceiling ( 219) which provided air conditioning. The rooms were... more

We booked this hotel after seeing it in the Rough Guide handbook as a reasonable place to stay whilst in Madrid. I was aware that they were a small family run outfit but looked forward to being right by the Plaza Mayor, the centre of all in the city we wanted to see. Booked the room wasn't too hard, we... more

I first read about Hostal La Macarena on Trip Advisor and after a bit of difficulty with making the reservations (you must do it through email: macarena@silserranos.com or by calling them directly 913659221) I reserved a room for 3 for 90 euros a night. Considering the price breakdown at 30 euros/pp includes an extremely comfortable bed and a newly renovated,... more

Stayed for 3 nights and booked by emailing hostal directly. In total agrement with other reviewers - can't beat the location. And there's a fab cafe at the bottom of the street that stays open into the night, v handy for chilling out after a long day on the streets. Loved the proximity to Plaza Mayor, and indulged in touristy... more

We had a wonderful 2 days in hostal la macarena - 2 triple rooms (small, the three large twin beds crammed together spanned the length of the room, with our own baths, wardrobe and small desk) and sparkling clean. went with kids (5 and 2) and grandparents and split 2 adjoining rooms. the location is excellent; up a flight of... more

This is a very good hotel in a perfect location. Some of the best tapas and restaurants are on Calle Cava Baja, which is two minutes away. You can walk to all museums as well. The only problem which is common to all old hotels in Spain is the noise from other rooms. The staff is nice but they may... more
