The location is perfect for visiting the castle and shops but the hotel itself was a little rundown looking. Firstly when you enter the main doors there's no recetion desk to greet you! You have to go up a flight of stairs or use the elevators (which NEVER seemed to come down to the first floor!!)...after waiting 5 minutes after... more

What a shame that this down -at -heel hotel will be so many overseas visitors only experience of Scottish hospitality. Its ideal position, overlooking The Scott Monument, with views over Princess Street Gardens to the High Street with the Castle on the skyline, must attract thousands of visitors each year. Love this hotel, location is amazing, staff were really friendly and the food was yum. I booked a standard room and although adequate for the price I was paying I just couldnt stay in that fantastic location without enjoying the views so I upgraded to a "Castle View Room", well worth the extra cash. The best feature about this Hotel is its location. It is right on Princes Street and the Castle and the Royal Mile are only a 10 minute walk away. The location is great, right on Princes Street, with superb views, and if you're in a street-facing room on the 7th floor you can climb out the window onto the balcony. Awful, ugly decor and this was in the "recently updated" Castle view room. Very noisy with window open as it is on a major street. Double glass helped a little. Not clean. dated. horrible lighting.
