We snorkeled here on our last day in Hawaii. It was a great experience! There is an abundance of fish and coral. The beach area is somewhat small and it can get crowded in the water. Go early in the morning or in the early afternoon. Snack bars closes down earlier than the preserve. The walk down to the beach... more

Snorkeling in Hanauma Bay was so much better than snorkeling in the Caribbean. From the moment you put your mask on and duck your head into the water, you are greeted by tons of fish and coral. You just have to be careful about the waves, undertow and where the coral is lest you scrape body parts on the coral.... more

.........beware of the idiots!!! My Wife & I are experienced divers and wished to snorkel this bay. Yes, it was FANTASTIC, at least 24 varieties of sea life! Beware of the novices'. They will make your visit unbearable! The reefs are scared with the mistakes of the uninformed, yet they give a 15 minute video on what not to do!!... more

Hanauma Bay was our second snorkeling stop on Oahu. Earlier in the week we had driven to the North Shore to snorkel in Shark's Cove. We had an amazing time...another review though. At Hanauma Bay we were hoping to continue this amazing experience. We were not disappointed! We had a large area for snorkeling, saw some amazing and varied fish... more

I have never been snorkelling before, so I really have no where else to compare this to. But for me, this was one of the most amazing places I have been to. The diversity of life was incredible and the water was beautiful and crystal clear! We went on a friday morning in May 2008. We arrived super early to... more

Aside from the view this was a disappointing outing for our family. We had read all the reviews and had been told by people in Hawaii that this place was a "must see". We went at the end of May during our Waikiki vacation and the crowd was huge. We rented gear at Hanauma Bay that didn't work very well.... more

Waterfronts all consist of sand and water, but that's where the similarities end. At first, I didn't want to go to Hanauma Bay, thinking it would be very similar to Waikiki Beach, but I'm glad that I changed my mind. We hooked up with the Hanauma Bay Dive Tours company and went out snuba diving. Great experience, as the Bay... more

Lucky for us we were there on a vog covered day so the beach was only 25% populated, usually it's packed which could lead to having a poor experience there, or so we're told. This is a great area to snorkle with an endless variety of fish and unreal beach. Too bad so many people have destroyed the coral over... more

I was there the first week in March, 2008 on a Monday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday. Despite reports from other reviews and books, Wednesday is not necessarily the best day to go. They say that because the preserve is closed on Tuesdays for maintenance. This supposedly gives the bay a day off from all the people stirring things up. My... more

Basically if you get all the way to Oahu and don't spend the 5USD to go here your an idiot. I've been snorkeling in many places that weren't half as nice as this - and it has cost me alot more than 5 bucks. The beach was as packed as Waikiki unfortunately but it was still nice. Plenty of shady... more
