A great little side trip. The museum is very nice, and something that those that appreciate Medieval art and architecture should do. A lot of the things there are similar to things you may have seen at other museums, but the location is the best part. You have to walk in through Fort Tryon Park; I don't think I would... more
Are the crowds and screaming kids at most NYC attractions getting to you? Then, you're in luck since the Cloisters is too far off the beaten path and not kid-friendly enough to ever really get crowded. Come on a nice, sunny day when you will be able to appreciate the gardens and the park with it's great views of the... more
What a wonderful way to get out of concrete busy New York and see another side to it! Located in Fort Tryon Park in Upper Manhattan and overlooking the Hudson River, it is definately worth the visit. The most impresssive piece of art that it has is the famous Unicorn Tapestries. It was very pleasant to walk around the peaceful... more
Loved the Cloisters but suggest to go there by bus because it takes you right to the main door of the cloisters. On leaving walk to the subway (downhill) & enjoy Fort Tyron park and the views of Hudson River along the way if you have time have a picnic. We loved it as it was peaceful & well laid... more
If you are a fan of medieval art and architecture, this museum is paradise. Even if this isn't your cup of tea, you will enjoy the other-worldly feel to the place, as if you have stepped back into the... more
Especially from spring-fall, The Cloisters is a great spot to visit while visiting Manhattan. Especially for those with interest in history. It is almost always less crowded than other museums, and much of it is outdoor gardens, which are beautiful. Easy to get to via A train and often overlooked since it does not sit in the middle of Times... more
I visited the Cloisters on a Friday morning in February. My friend and I took the subway and then walked for about 10 minutes (a little bit uphill) to the museum. Remember to take in travel time when determining how long the museum visit will take! You go through part of Fort Tryon park which was very pretty and would... more
The Cloisters is the replica of a Medieval monsastery...the museum and most exhibits were donated by the Rockefellers (along with a major portion of land on the very upper west side of Manhattan island in New York City). The replica was built on a hill, and has collections of art (tapestries, regilious artifacts, stone, stuatues, pictures) that well represent that... more
