The Flam Railway is undoubtedly scenic, and a great way to get to the stunning little town of the same name. While my trip did not suffer from the massive overcrowding experienced by some other unfortunate reviewers, I nevertheless gained the distinct impression that groups were the priority. While I can understand this, from memory the groups received a significant... more

The Flam Railway is ok, but just ok. We went on a rainy August day - 1 day before a large cruise ship came into Flam. The number of tourists in Flam at that time was fairly modest, so we didn't experience the overcrowding issues noted in some other reviews. We were disappointed that the operators of the train had... more

My family did not enjoy the Flam Railway journey we experienced recently (July 2008). We did this journey twice - first time from Myrdal to Flam and then again two days later to get from Flam to Myrdal (to rejoin the main Olso-Bergen line). Both times it was tourist hell. This train does not have designated seating, so it's "first... more

Visited July 2007 as part of 12 day cruise. Booked an excursion through the ship to guarantee the train ride due to the amount of people on 2 cruise ships being in Flam! Took the train to Vatnahalsen and stopped off at the hotel for coffee and waffles before going on a short walk. The train stopped on the upward... more

Riding this train was a delight. The views on it as you make your way to Myrdal are awesome. The train stops at one waterfall I forget the name of. It's a very impressive waterfall. They also have a couple dancers come out who do a troll dance to music. It was really neat. I'd definitely recommend riding this train... more

We booked the 'Norway in a Nutshell' tour prior to coming to Bergen for a weeks stay in August 2007. Very lucky with the weather - this was the best day for the seven we had in town - and we had a great day. However don't be fooled into thinking that an advance booking provides any guarantee of seating... more

If one visits Flam, even if it was only for a day from a cruise ship, the Flamsbanen railway should be a must do. It is called Europes most exciting rail trip and it doeesn't disappoint. It is part of the normal Norweigen rail service and is a vital link for locals wishing to get to the main Oslo-Bergen line... more

This was one of those special train journeys through a lovely landscape. It is recommended to be there early to beat the crowds. We caught the first train of the day which left at 8.30am. Sit in the middle (fourth) carriage (you'll see why below). We started the journey from the small village of Flam at the head of Aurlandsfjorden.... more

We spent six days in Norway including Oslo, Bergen and the fjords. Sadly enough our biggest diappointment was the Flam railway. The train was crowded to the point where people were standing everywhere. Lots of tour groups with reserved cars made it impossible to get a seat. As a result, it was impossible to see out of the windows. If you're doing... more

Flåm is one of the most beautiful places in the world--certainly one of the most beautiful places I've ever been to (better than Geiranger in Norway, equal to the Na Pali coast in Hawaii and Murren and Zermatt in Switzerland). The rail trip from Flåm up the mountain to Myrdal is one of the great railway journeys in the world.... more
