It's expensive. My only complaint. The view is excellent. We took a tour and learned about some of the history of the castle and the area. It was very interesting. You will need more than one visit to see the whole thing. more

For the ancient history junkies amongst you, it would appear that the first references to the Castle appeared around AD 600 in the Brythonic (i.e. ancient Kings / Queens of Britain) epic Y Gododdin. Therein lies a reference to Din Eidyn, "the stronghold of Eidyn". Y Gododdin is an epic poem is about King Mynyddog Mwynfawr and his band of... more
Website is terrific for the castle, buying a ticket online was easy and this way we did not have to figure out where to buy tickets or wait in lines but I saw no lines anyway and it was middle of afternoon when we arrived during a weekday. We also saw what was the very end of a few peeps... more
Although this is the attraction that every visitor to Edinburgh goes to see, we felt it was overpriced for what it was, and too touristy. You can find many better castles in Scotland or in Wales. The problem with Edinburgh Castle is that large parts of it are not accessible so you don't really get the feeling of how life... more
We visited the Castle on our trip to Edinburgh and went early morning which turned out to be a wise decision. We arrived there about 9:30 and spent a couple of hours looking around. When we arrived, we got our tickets within about 5 minutes however the queue as we were leaving was massive and I bet would have taken... more
There isa lot of history in the environs of Edinburgh Castle, but it is the most "commercial" castle I found in Eastern Scotland. Very limited access to rooms/areas - you cannot walk the wall, for example - and most interior rooms do not allow any photograpghy. Wonderful views of the city of Edinburgh, good information on Scottish war heritage. more
Edinburgh Castle is Spectacular! Great Views and full of beautiful museums. A trip to Edinburgh wouldn't be complete without visiting the Castle. You can spend hours winding around the beautiful old building here! more
The castle has a superb view of whole Edinburgh city, and the castle itself is magnificent. I recommend it as "must go" places in Edinburgh. more
I took a Da Vinci Code Tour which I downloaded of Roslyn which was absolutely excellent, written with the help of the historian who wrote the book, "Roslyn and the Grail". They put straight a lot of the fables surrounding the chapel, and it was a lot better than the ones you buy on the grounds. To download the whole... more
My husband and I started our day by walking up to the Edinburgh Castle. I think it is a good idea to come early to the castle because it seems to get very busy in the afternoons. We decided to go right when it opened at 9:30 and didn't have any trouble with the queue to get tickets. As you... more
